+1 for getting the ball rolling and decide a date for branch cutting...

Regarding /v2/ api, isn’t the plan that the new api will co-exist with the old 
for some time?
If so, it would be acceptible to add the /v2/ API in 6.x and deprecate old api 
in 6.y?
