it greatly pains and disappoints me to say that it is time for me
to leave this community. I have always tried to do well by the
project, but it seems that my efforts are no longer appreciated. I
think that if this project is to survive as more than a facade in
front of the largely corporately controlled engineering processes,
it will need to learn how to better recognize and reward volunteer
contributers.

Ryan has told me, and I think the list should know, that his "resignation" is actually because Jacqueline and Louis asked him to resign immediately.

[...]

I contacted Ryan privately explaining why we were revoking the MarCon role.

I cc'd Louis into my message for two reasons. 1. I feel uncomfortable
sending private mail when I consider all mail should be on a list so
that it may be archived for future reference, and 2. In case my mail is
not received or acted upon, storage is held somewhere else than on my
computer.

By posting to this public list you have removed the opportunity for Ryan
to step down in good grace.

The OpenOffice.org project guidelines suggest communications of these
types of decisions privately, and I remember you yourself said praise
on-list and critique off-list. I disagree with this approach when it
comes down to the situation we have at hand. New people join the project
and lists every day. They do not have the background to understand where
people are coming from. That is, you can point to and extol a person's
virtues by referring to the archives, but there is no public reference
to any constructive criticism or correction as this is off-list.

I will only now consider public critique to Ryan at his request.

The Project Leads are responsible for the recruitment of and liaison
with MarCons. Usually, potential candidates contact us, as two did
earlier this week. The "What Do MarCons Do?" is a minimum, and I'm happy
to say that most of the MarCons exceed these requirements.
