Your idea of "good grace" must be different from mine. His abrupt
departure could otherwise be interpreted by others as sour
grapes, rather than gracefully accepting a demand from you to
resign.

That is true. No one ever knows the full story, sometimes not even the direct participants.

I will only now consider public critique to Ryan at his
request.

I don't understand this sentence. Do you mean that if Ryan says okay, you will give the reasons here? I have forwarded your note
to Ryan (as he is no longer on the list), and cc'd him on this
note from me, so we'll see what happens.
