Ian is away right this minute, but I'll try to paraphrase some of what
he said to me. He'll correct me if I get something wrong.
BECTA is interested, but they need a plan to "sell" it to the
politicians. For example, it's important to supporting one vendor over
others. That's why they said OpenOffice and not StarOffice. There aren't
a lot of details because the details are precisely what BECTA wants to
work out.
So the question is rather open-ended. It's of the form, "do you have any
ideas?". For example, one idea I had was to suggest StarOffice4Kids. Ian
said this is actually a bad idea because "StarOffice" rings of "Sun"
which rings of "unfair advantage to one supplier". We want to find a few
suggestions that will make OOo a good sell for a (1) government looking
to supply (2) schools with software.
