Why also asks a question -- inviting the reader to read on to find an answer. "Therefore" doesn't draw the reader in in the same way, so it's not as effective.

I think 'why' is the common English word to use here. Besides, it's shorter and easier to write. So, that's why i'll vote for 'why' (and not: "that's therefore I'll vote for 'why'") :-)
