Hi Marta,
thanks for joining this list!
(That's what I asked her because they are interested in working together
with the community.)

To whom it may concern,
my name is Marta and I'm an editor of OpenOffice.org magazine.
You've been presenting the magazine's idea a couple of weeks ago to our
project's Lead and he posted it to this list:

I've been corresponding with Mr. Dippold, so I know that community and OOo's
marketing Department would like us to change the magazine's name.
I'd like to tell you more about the background of these thoughts:
At first: There is no "Marketing Department" in a community of
volunteers, but there are quite a number of people with skills and
experience in marketing working together to improve OOo's position in
public. Your magazine will serve this aim by improving knowledge about OOo.
Our concerns (I know that there might be some people here with
different, may be opposite interests) are mainly dependent on the fact,
that "OpenOffice.org" is not only the name for the product, but for the
community behind it as well.
A magazine called "OpenOffice.org magazine" will not only be seen as
magazine about the product, but as publication about the community -
with this name it could understood as official magazine distributed by
the community.
We all know that there is no legal issue with using this name (if you
respect the trademark, what I'm sure you will), but as you asked us for
our opinion, I told you about it.
Our Marketing Project Lead, John McCreesh, raised this question to the
Community Council, the highest level of decision making inside the
community, and Louis Suarez-Potts, the Community Manager, shared our
concerns. He proposed a magazine's name like "The unofficial
OpenOffice.org magazine".

As this might not be the best title for marketing the magazine, I
proposed a title like
Using OpenOffice.org.
This title has two advantages (IMHO):
- it implies that the magazine is concerned with the program, not the
community
- it shows the main goal of the magazine: informations, articles and
hints for actual and possible users of OOo.
We are flexible and we don't want to do anything against the community.
I ask here for other possible names:
Has anybody any better idea to serve both purposes?
Please don't hesitate to comment :-)
Best regards
Bernhard
