Hi!

I am to translate the (why.openoffice.org) website to Hungarian. I was looking around in the marketing projects CVS, but I could not find the source files. Could someone please point me to the right direction?

Anyway, I have some thoughts to share about the site :-). There are two issues that came to my attention:

  1. the index page of the Why website
(http://why.openoffice.org/index.html) has a nice "user level"
choice on the front page: Government, Education, Businesses, Not
for profits, etc. It is clear, that I can choose "my level" of
information there. But somewhy (Why? :-)) it is so strange that on
doing so those icon set disappears and gives it's place to the
screenshot thumbnails. An example: I am a F/OSS advocate, but I am
also interested in why my business should choose OOo. So I click
the "F/OSS advocates" icon, read the text, but than I am lost: the
Business icon disappeared - a screenshot thumbnail took it's
place. Although I can see the intention in this behavior, I find
this a site usability problem. Am I the only one who feels like
this? What if other site visitors also dislike to categorize
themselves in this "hardly reversible" way?
  2. one of the biggest new features of OO.o 3.0, as I see, is the
availability of a native OS-X version. So OO.o is available at
least on the three major platforms: GNU/Linux, Apple's OS-X and
Microsoft's Windows (in reverse order of number of potential users
:-)). But there are subclasses of these three: there are some
Vista users and some XP users from Microsoft, and there are GNOME
and KDE users from the GNU/Linux branch. Those systems have
different visual properties. Despite this, all the screenshots
were made on a Microsoft Windows XP.
I think, it would be good to show the Why visitors, that
OpenOffice.org can be like this, and can be like that also. It
would be good to have an OS-X screenshot, a Vista screenshot, a
GNOME screenshot and a KDE screenshot, beside the XP. For example
Writer (XP), Calc (Vista), Impress (OS-X), Base (KDE) and Draw
(GNOME) respectively (guess my intention, thus, by heart I would
give Draw with the penguin to XP and any of the first three major
OOo apps to a nice Ubuntu screenshot :-)).
IMHO in such a way the Why website would become far more
interesting for the users of the mentioned and currently ignored
platforms, especially for OS-X and Vista, as users of those
systems may find XP screenshots quite discouraging. But it would
improve OOo-s acceptance also for those users of Windows XP who
are eager to something "new" - there must be many of them by now.
OpenOffice.org has many different faces, and it would be great to
show this on the Why website.

Kind regards,
Gergely Máté
