Hi Christine, all,
First I'd like to thank you for your contributions to the OOo marketing
- all the topics you raised in your (admittedly nearly as long as mine)
mails are important and need to be discussed further.
If we could agree on using the Conf-call agenda [1] as general to-do
list (as we can't cover the topics mentioned there in one or a few
conference calls), you might add your ideas there...
With regards to your proposal to use intensive mailing contacts in a
given time-slot instead of a phone conference, I totally understand your
concerns about phone conferences.

[...] I personally find telephone conferences awkward. I seem
incapable to understand 'who is who' by simply listening to tone of
voice and this impedes my participation (which I know may not be a
problem for others).
For me it's a problem as long as I don't know the others from a few
calls before or personal. If the number of members of a call is not too
large (meaning more than 6 to 8 people), I'll be able to differ between
them after some time.
Also, in general I do not like the quality of VOIP
(or cell) services due to reliability and clarity issues.
Even if someone with a cell phone takes part in a landline conference
it's harder for me to understand.
Another point where I see phone conferences problematic is language: I
think that I improved my English during the last years because of my OOo
activities, and I'm able to follow spoken English in most cases.
But on the phone it is much harder - and in a conference I don't ask for
a repetition more than one time, because I think everybody else did
understand it...
There are reasons to have phone conferences instead of mail exchange, if
a dedicated group wants to get a common actual status on a certain topic
or if decisions have to be made in short term.
Even in these cases I'd prefer IRC.
But reading is much faster than writing, and you can't transport
meta-information very good with written content - therefore phone calls
can be easier and lead faster to results.
Let's see how the call on Monday will work...
Best regards
Bernhard
