I'd just like to point out one thing: it's not necessarily lack of interest that can keep developers out of the picture, but also an inability to keep up. Too much project velocity can mean that developers stuck on the outside (I feel that I'm included in this group WRT Maven 3 these days) can't keep up enough with the architecture changes and such to even ask intelligent questions.

To me, 50k-foot-high summaries of new architecture direction isn't really optimal, and neither is having to be the one to keep up enough that I can be an effective nag. I don't really want to have to nag about anything, and since some developers have more time to devote to Maven 3 than I do, I expect them to articulate a plan for Maven 3 and stick to it, at least enough that I'll recognize the code if I look around.

I'm not really trying to start up a big bone-picking party here, just trying to make the point that starting from the assumption that nobody else is interested but the working team for Maven 3...that's deeply flawed.
