Hi Jacqueline, first a few "off topic" words: I feel a little sad about the fact, that it seems, that I'm actually "attacing" you. That's not, what I want to do, as you at least take care about the issue.

I totally agree on that. But atm, the global QA team is not doing release QA. So it is not of much use to ask end users to join the prosess, if the process is not working. ... > > Agreed. But I thought we were talking about people who were wishing to > participate in the QA process. See above. .. and .. imho, it's ok to announce the rc "within" the project (project's users lists ...) and ask users to join the tests. But if we announce via website and [EMAIL PROTECTED], the message will be in the news very soon (german news tickers had the message 30 minutes after your announcment). The sad effect is, that end users are aware of a new "release" at a time where it is not fully tested. If we then do the real release, there are no news for us left to tell (beside the fact, that there now are no stopper bugs left). OOo is a little special (and different from Firefox or other OpenSource software) here. > > > I thought this time that the announcement was geared towards those that > do wish to participate and or understand the development and release > cycle which is why I was happy to volunteer. > > It is true that I have not participated this last three months, but I > did not think the release process (fortunately or unfortuantely) had > changed. Apologies if it has and I was unaware. No, the release process had not changed within the last three months. From what I can tell, it has silently changed about a year ago. And as there is still no "written process" how to do a release, it will always lead to confusion.
