For version 1.1.3 (if memory serves me) Sun hired a local Brazilian university to handle the translation in parallel to the pt-BR community. The result was that there were two different translations for 1.1.3. This resulted in issues between the pt-BR community and Sun that are currently being addressed. As Claudio mentioned, we began talks with Rafaella in order to resync the efforts between Sun and the pt-BR community towards a single common translation. From Rafaella's suggestion, this is being based on the Dutch experience. Another issue that sidetracked us here in Brazil was a trademark issue with a company based in Rio. In 1998, they registered the brand "Open Office". According to Brazilian trademark law, OpenOfice.org does not constitute a name unique enough to be trademarked. In order to keep the work going and prevent further legal action from the company, we organized an NGO (Non-Governmental Organization) and, after a community vote, trademarked the name BrOffice.org. This is the trademark for the project, the site and the community in Brazil. Now that things are a bit clearer, we can go back to the language issues with Rafaella and Sun. So, to put it shortly, yes. There are currently two different translations of OOo. The one provided by Sun with some feedback from the community and available in OpenOffice.org, and the second provided by the pt-BR community and available in BrOffice.org. With Rafaella's and our community's help, we hope to bring the two translations back in line. And also realign other efforts such as our spelling dictionary, and grammar check.
