I agree with all of that except for the idea of pull request acceptance being the only method for assessing ideas and perspectives. They are often too fine grained. Choosing the best route from A to B, or even whether to go to C, is not possible if you can only choose left or right at the next junction. This is an issue by far not unique to us, in fact very common in community driven projects. I'm not sure mailing list threads are ideal either. This thread is notably missing input from VSCode side for example. Somehow we need to work out what works best for us in sketching out the bigger picture and reconciling viewpoints.
