Not to the same extent.

Where should it be, Neil? It can't be here at Apache because of its
licensing. Isn't it fine where it is and under active development via
Jaroslav and others?

Where should it be on Maven Central where it is not versus where it is now?
Well, that repository is a fork of https://github.com/oracle/nb-javac
It was originally put forward when we got agreement to ship that
development and distribution would be in namespaces belonging to
Oracle (eg. copyright holder). It has been accepted that this does
not necessarily have to be the case.

But I'd really like to see something centred around a group, not a
personal repository. That's just my opinion. Whatever there is needs
to be sustainable and kept up-to-date (as Michael says, there's still
no GA version for NB16), and without our involvement.

As for being developed here - if the entire backport could be achieved
in the build, without any additional GPL sources or patches, perhaps
it could be. That might be difficult to achieve.

the funny aspect (to me at least) of this discussion is that I personally am not using nb-javac in my copy of NB I use for work, since I already run NB on the JDK version nb-javac would have been generated from anyway (never encountered compatibility issues so far even though I have the tendency to round-robin between vendors).

At the same time I test NB with nb-javac and try to help with maintenance tasks and resolve nb-javac issues which users encounter.

This always felt a bit like a redundant task to me which could be completely avoided with some updates to installers or the NB bootstrap process (I like the zip) ;)

nb-javac lost its main purpose (for NetBeans) the moment it changed from true-fork to automated-backport IMO.

best regards,
michael

Best wishes,

Neil
