Where does this come from? I just looked at this on my notebook screen and when the left panel is large enoguh to show the contents of the Projects/Files/Favorites nicely, the tabs also fit. All four show up correctly. And if the screen is really that tiny that it does not fit, it is a single click or a single drag to close/rearrange. The start question was: Is it ok to show "Favorites" by default? Why is this turned into bikeshedding to totally rework the layout? Just show the tab and be done about it.
