lets keep this discussion about first-open and what-opens-where/when. 
Or in other words: Initial UI state after first project/file open.

this is not about adding buttons, merging tabs or changing names - unless 
something discussed here would
be a showstopper for something someone envisions for the future.


But to steer future discussions a little bit: One reason why I added tooltips 
was to try to make it clearer that
both Project/Files tabs are in fact about projects. They are logical and 
physical views of your project
(I actually really like the names the implementation has for them). The logical 
view can even show files
which don't even exist (aggregated layer.xml just to pick an example or maven 
settings.xml also isn't even in your
project but important context for pom.xmls and therefore shown)

UX wise, I don't understand the suggestions to merge Files with Favorites. How 
this is even supposed to work
or what clicks are saved. (we can't go below 1 click/kb button which is the 
current state). So if someone wants to lead
an effort like that, please make a clear proposal how this would actually work 
and what the pros/cons would be.
