The repository is mirrored to apache: https://gitbox.apache.org/repos/asf?p=incubator-netbeans.git;a=summary So it would be inconvenient, but the world will keep spinning if github goes dark. My take on this: We loose nothing if we first observe what happens on github, before we make heated decisions.
