I'm running this on an old linux box I found in the closet. Verify passed on
that machine, so I'm comfortable with this committing to master.
Re: 4.x branch, I haven't finished the back port yet. Would you prefer both
patches land at the same time (as we do in HBase) or do you mind a day or two
between them? Asking just in case I cannot complete the back port today.
