On the read side, we only do scans, so in theory using a DirectExecutorService 
will prevent the context switch of getting another thread to do the scan RPCs 
(since we already got the thread out of pool to do the scan work). If we see a 
lot of perf benefit with the direct executor approach, we might make this a 
configurable option. We should test with a separate HTable thread pool as well, 
though, as that seems simpler given that we definitely need one for writes.
