Sure they do :-) You don't need to install those libraries.
Scroll down to the topic "Replacing libfreetype (optional)"
and follow the instructions given.
Create a backup folder for the existing libfreetype files, copy
them into this backup folder and afterwards replace them with the
ones in the tar.gz archive. It is really that simple. I did this
before and I did it again today because I finally updated to 10.4.3
after staying with 10.3.9 till friday.
Please understand, I am _not_ a techie! I have
libfreetype-2.1.9-davidchesterpatch.tar.gz sitting on my desktop and
I don't know what the heck to do with it. The instructions say
'http://www2.entropy.ch/download/libfreetype-2.1.9-davidchesterpatch.tar.gz'
... % cd /usr/X11R6/lib/ % sudo mkdir libfreetype-orig Password: %
sudo mv libfreetype.* libfreetype-orig % sudo tar -xzf
~/libfreetype-2.1.9-davidchesterpatch.tar.gz and I don't know where
in Sam Hill to do this or even how! A step-by-step wizard would sure
help!
I think it's this "techie gap" that's got (at least with Mac OOo)
potential users of OOo thoroughly perplexed and bemused because they
have to jump hoops and work witchcraft to fire up OOo in ways that
developers and techies in their second-nature instinctive expertise
take to like ducks to water. OOo should be as turn-key as possible to
reap in more users and customers. All these installation procedures
are real killers for drawing clients! We've a cute TV commercial in
the states where a surgeon about to do heart surgery is paged to
answer a phone call, so he takes this big red "Easy" button out of
his shirt and puts it on the patient and presses it and as he walks
off the operating room staff's eyes bug out as something weird is
happening to the patient. By hook or crook, installing all software
should be this easy!
Keep up the great work!
