O.K. It appears to me that up to now you haven't used a terminal
and therefore we need to begin some steps earlier. So here we go:

Go to your Application Folder

Press Apel+O to open it

You find a folder called Utilities

Open this folder

You see an app called Terminal

Launch Terminal

you see an terminal on your screen

In this terminal you see a welcome screen like this:
Last login: Sun Nov 20 15:34:27 on ttyp1
Welcome to Darwin!
EricPB:~ mav_eric$

After the last maveric you can start to type and you have access to
the command line.

From this point on you do as adivced on the page.

curl is command line tool that allowes you to download everything
you want to from the net and comes with Mac OS X so you don't need
to install anything here too.

BTW Installing OpenOffice.org 2.0 is that easy. Download the
diskimage and drag and drop the app inside it to your application
folder. This is easy. If you have 1.1.x it's nearly as easy.
Download the image and double click on the installer and follow its
adivces. It doesn't get much easier. You can only use what you have
as software and we use the tools that Apple provides us and we try
to keep it simple. Really.

But if you want to use hacks and modify your software in a more or
less unofficial way you have to life with the fact that hacks are
nothing a non-techniccal-savvy can do the first time he reads it
and is in the situation to use a terminal.

Anyway I hope that things are clearer now and that you come to your
improvings. If you still have questions please ask them.

Kind regards,
Eric Hoch
