On checking the folder out, it seems as though it contains a lot more than just preferences, so I would recommend either putting it all into Application Support or putting the preferences in the preferences folder and everything else in the Application Support folder.
Generally speaking, I would advise, if possible to break the fewer as possible the actual structure of ooo files and directories (do not dispatch them all over the system) Then MacOsX user will be able to be helped by non-macusers (poor guys like me ;) )
