The point of the autoformat is to have a template that can be applied to
every table, no matter what its current format is.
If you extend the "My text is lost" problem, you can also write
"AutoFormat overwrote my background-color"...
The difference is, that background-color is obviously a format .. so I'd
expect the color to be changed.
But text is content and not format.
The easy workaround was to disable the "apply number format" setting by
default.
