Apart from the rest you write (I'm not the person to go in depth there): the last thing the OpenOffice.org project can use, is that someone will be writing that OOo is poor on Vista. OTOH, positive news about how OOo works on Vista, is very good.
So I understand the current focus on Vista and think it is wise.
