I'm not completely sure I understand what you're proposing, but here are a couple of points to bear in mind:

1) As we move out of the Jakarta repo into our own TLP repo, we need to decide whether we want to ask infrastructure@ for a new CVS repo or an SVN repo. (Personally, I'm leaning towards saying that what's in CVS is the 1.2.x "branch", and taking exactly what's labelled as 1.2.1 and moving that to SVN, where we can (theoretically) mess around to our hearts' content, but that's just my on opinion.)

2) We've agreed we want to restructure the repo (whether in CVS or SVN) as a Struts core and multiple peer projects (e.g. for JSP view, Faces, etc.). However, I don't believe we've entirely settled on what we want that to look like. (Reviewing the old threads would be a good start, though there were multiple different ideas.)

3) Given the factoring into sub-projects that we want to do, we'll no doubt be making extensive use of Maven's multi-project capabilities. It would be nice to know what that actually means, especially in terms of constraints. (I'm afraid I don't have much of a clue, so I'm hoping someone else does. ;)

4) Ted has suggested (and I agree) that we should do an overhaul and restructuring of the documentation and web site, including perhaps rethinking the way we map between docs and web site today. Obviously this will interact with splitting into multiple sub-projects too.

IMHO, we really need to come up with a complete proposal for all of this - or at least a proposal for a plan for getting there - before we start making actual changes to what's in CVS today.

That shouldn't stop you experimenting with the CVS tree locally, but I wouldn't want to see changes in the real live repo before we've agreed on where we want to go with all of this.

Apropos of the earlier discussion about Maven repositories and such, I'm going to try to spend at least a couple of hours staking out a new CVS repository for "struts-as-TLP". I'm going to try to set up a local repository on my machine with a copy of /home/cvs/jakarta-struts and see what I can do with just moving files around.

Assuming that I get anywhere at all, are people OK with setting it up in CVS under the module "struts" and letting people use the Apache CVS server to test it? If not, I might be able to find a place to host it.
