There are multiple options on the table. 
One would be to have this code checked via reflection.
The other is to just add a new module which is for tomcat9++

We need a JIRA ticket in OWB with a description of the suggested improvements.
After all we'd love to understand and document what improvements you would like 
to implement.

And of course a patch would also be highly welcome!
