Ok, I discovered how to see the thread on GMANE. If you go to the url you specified below,
http://article.gmane.org/gmane.comp.apache.uima.general/3333/match=doc0+xmi you can see the whole thread if you click the Subject: line (click one of the "blue" words in the line). Then you can see the discussion about this, and the Jira that fixed it.
