Peter Klügl commented on UIMA-2811:
-----------------------------------
I think we could take most of the suggestions (however, I haven't check the
registered trademarks yet)
I personally prefer a short and simple/short name with a simple pronunciation
that has maybe also some meaning referring to a suitable metaphor or is a
reasonable acronym.
UIMA-RULES sounds great, but...
- textmarker is a rule language but with many different concepts compared to
standard rule systems. The "inference" is more like in a scripting language and
there is no truth maintenance and so on (actually, there are plans for some
structures that compile multiple rules to a FST). I think some users expect
something different when they hear rules.
- it's not as easy to speak about the language and similar stuff (at least im
my opinion). An example: you want to describe the composition of the rules
compared to another system: "The UIMA-RULES rules are ..."
UIMA-RE, UIMA-RDE:
I think the pronunciation is here not clear from the start and a leading "r"
after the "a" is maybe not as fluent (is it?). It is maybe also easier to give
the complete stuff one name and then extend it with language or workbench.
What do you think about some simple word after UIMA:
tar, tars
aide, anvil
sita, sitar
farl, fars
vita, pita
rapid, rash
I am not yet completely convinced by any of them and my personal favorite is
still "tape"(, but I don't think we can take it).
