I think what happened is that everyone kept building on their own designs
instead of adjusting their mockups to the other ideas. I am not a fan of a
double menu, it confuses the users. Maybe the rest are fan of PHP-Nuke layout.

Menus are not an easy thing to follow, menu's are big list which needs to kept
narrow and which sometimes users have to guess what exactly they mean by the 2
-4 random words.

The more menus you have, the more confusing it gets. A very extreme example can
be found here: http://openoffice.start4all.com/

Menu's with interaction are even harder since, they hide information and need
interaction, causing the user to think even more.However I didn't like the fact
that the decision process is taking so long so I kind of relaxed on this
discussion.
