No, those are not the objectives of the home page. This is not primarily a
marketing device. The things you just listed are all secondary. The most
important things are those that most users are looking for. Those are, in
order:
* Obtain the product.
* Get help, ask a question, read documentation, etc.
* Learn about the project, product, etc ('about us').
Things like news, events, and introducing people are all way down the
list. This is not about what you want to tell the user, it's about what
the user wants to know.
