I have a very simple proposal for the website team:

 1) Let's change the website NOW. Let's have a vote, and pick
 a page.

+1

 2) As soon as that's done, put up a survey to gather additional
information. This is the survey I recommend:

     * Why are you visiting our site today?
     * Did you find what you were looking for?

+1

With multiple-choice answers for the first question, along the lines you proposed in an earlier note. For example, something like --

Select all that apply:
   a. Download OOo.
    b. Ask a question.
    c. Learn how to use the product.
    d. Find out what OOo is.

(maybe also "other"?)

The second question could be yes/no.

If we agree to do *this* I promise not to argue over which site I like
better and just let everyone else pick.

That's an interesting bribe, Daniel. :-)

I've snipped the rest of your note, but I agree with everything you've said.

Folks, I haven't been saying much recently on this list, because I've been focused on other things, and every time I think I'll write something to the list, Daniel says it first and says it better and more thoroughly. I feel like I'm an echo if I keep saying "Yes! What he said! What he said!"

Here's an important message:
Daniel does know what he's talking about when it comes to usability. Please listen to him.
