I think the eggs are a distracting and irrelevant image, too. Everyone who's seem them says to me, "what's with the eggs?" I don't know what to tell them.

Why do you feel compelled to tell them anything? <G>

I foresaw some discussion on the eggs :) ... it was my idea to put them there (during design it functioned as placeholder)... but it is a conceptual thing: the eggs are seagull eggs, and the seagull is part of the openoffice.org brand. so the eggs relate to the upcoming 2.0 version :)

I thought they might be seagull eggs, and hatching the 2.0 version. Will a different image be used when V2 is released?

I'm not sure what Maarten's thinking was when he chose this image aside from the fact that he liked it and yes it did sort of bring to mind seagull eggs. Not that I have ANY idea what seagull eggs look like mind you! Some of us felt the eggs contributed an air of mystery--something to think about so to speak.

Louis indicated we're a ways off from the 2.0 launch...but anything is up for conderation at this/that point...as long as we don't have to change it tomorrow. :)
