Hi Maarten--

First, good work Malcan! Without you we wouldn't have any discussions and your proposals finally show some of what we may call /identity/, something OOo is lacking seriously.

Now the critique ;) :

1. somebody else noted it already, green has become somewhat of the colour for download. I do think that communicates download (this does not mean that the whole button should be green though) 2. just like Kay, I am not so much a fan of the red box for additional downloads. Another suggestion would be making the support/get involved buttons smaller, and keep it on the main page. I like the fact that it is also advertising for the extensibility of OOo; regular users will probably want to check this page out, so giving them quick access from the front pageis good. 3. maybe some more marketing as in "Effortless file exchange, with the OpenDocument format" is required. Make it not just another office suite. It should give some answers to... why... 4. download button in the middle is better imho (disagreeing with Kay here...) it catches the eye more 5. what is get more? kind of related to support? why not merge them, now I do not know where to go to for more information. 6. Maybe you could design with the top bar, which will be needed for the subpages anyhow also on the main page... makes it for a bit more advanced users to get around. 7. The get involved picture is really good, but indeed some more older people might strenghten it. 8. I do not think the seagull is a necessity, but it has become a bit of identity, for what it is worth. It should never become show-stopper imho 9. I would even make the download button even larger... at least make it the largest button of them all.

Well for so far... thanks a lot already!

g.,

Maarten

OK, I'm good with all these suggestions...but let's do try to get the seagull back in somewhere. The rest is all fine! Hopefully, Molcon will continue his good work. Meanwhile, I guess I'll contact somewhat in the Arts project to see what they can contribute to a new Download button/graphic.
