> OK, I'm resubjecting this to go along with Louis's suggestion from 10/24. Well, I am not sure if I am agree with his suggestion completely... my main concern is that the reasons for moving to portal.openoffice.org is nothing but framework related, whereas there are many problems that are not so much a problem of the framework, but lack of effort in thinking how to improve the current situation. However, the ability to use something different than the collabnet framework is much welcomed, also by me.

My reply: http://bromei.nl/maarten/extern/openoffice.org/2007/sitestructure_v2.odp disclaimer: I am not sure whether this way of communication (using presentations) works well... but we can try it for a while... I took Matthias original presentation, and added what I think is a better suggestion. Main point I want to make is not to think in (sub)domain names, but in terms of functionality. The dashed lines are not menu type of links, but more in terms of small banners, hints ("if you want to know more, have a look at...") etc. I believe if we can have e.g. PHP on the portal domain, we can offer all kinds of services for making the homepage more accessible / maintainable. Another option I do not want to exclude is that www.openoffice.org directly forwards to portal.openoffice.org and do everything near end-user related there (including what is the first page everyone gets to see and things like download). One important thing where server side scripting is much wanted is the download page. Server side scripting would allow us to offer download options in different languages(!), and integrate CD-Roms and P2P much friendlier (actually I think it is even more important to make download.openoffice.org a non collabnet server than www.openoffice.org , as proper download functionality has proved to be really problematic the last years). For the main page it would be nice to do things like an RSS ticker, making news much more maintainable (from some kind of blogging system). g., Maarten --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
