Please let me know if this is something we wish to pursue. Our min JRE
version is now coded into the js on the mail DL index page (well my mockup), so we can change this relatively easily.

It is indeed clever, but I'm not sure it can be deployed out of the box:
how can you be sure that both with and without JRE versions are made
available?

uh well...this is mostly used for Linux, solaris, and win versions. Our current script, using the bouncer echnology, basically only differentiates jre vs non-jre for these versions. This detection ONLY addresses THOSE OSes if you want to know the truth. I'll have to take a look at our current DL script again to see what's going on with the others. I know Mac is just a redirect to the Mac porting area, for example. For our current "production" version, whatever that may be and what this ids dealing with, I'm fairly certain this will work.

The Italian team, for instance, tends to approve with-JRE builds first;
builds without JRE are approved later or when requested. Unless you find
a way to automatically query Bouncer about available builds, this will
require a lot of manual updates and can lead to wrong requests.

OH--OK...I'll look into to what you're saying here.
