Hello Kay, Clayton,

What we can do is.... ummm... leave the page where it is... make some

It's very healthy to discuss pages like these, when the content can touch the work done in several projects in the community.

I think a link would be good, and let the page rest there for a couple of more years. What's important for me is that the pages like these don't lay around untouched and forgotten. I'll provide a patch for this and send to you Clayton?

Another document with installation instructions is this page, afaik this is updated by various people:

do not correspond to our current release but they are probably still
valid.

Mmmm not really. As Per is discovering as he edits this document, the
info is out of date in many ways.

I suppose the documentation project has not established a way
to update them since OOo2.x.

Clayton, we should add a note about the two documents discussed here on the Documentation dashboard, so that we know that these exist. Especially so that we are active updating these pages accordingly. The installation instructions on download.oo.o should be added as a task:

http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/Documentation/Dashboard

The docs are updated as we can, and as we get to them... "we" meaning
the OOo Doc community. There are only a few people that are active, so
it takes time to get around to looking at the older docs and updating
them. Also, we are discovering documents all the time that are hidden
away... forgotten because project members who started them are no longer
around, or no longer active in the Doc project. If anyone discovers
docs that are not being maintained, dropping a message here or the doc
mailing list is fine.

Being active is the strongest weapon you can have in a community, which is a great thingie. :-)

Best
Per
