It may now be possible to build xalan-java-mvn without maven reporting any errors. Cross-check would be welcome. (I haven't yet tested on Windows, and I don't have a Mac available.)

I need to think about whether to actually _revert_ some of the javadoc changes just to simplify evaluation of the maven port as a merge request. Opinions welcome.

And yes, I should probably git squash this before submitting the merge request. There was a lot of experimentation, especially early on, and folks really don't need to see those intermediate steps.

(I miss the feature in gitlab which let you perform a squash as part of the merge process; that was Really Convenient, assuming you remembered to turn that on.)
