I clearly agree. I have these changes done locally - though we get a number of new warnings about deprecation and such, of course. I greatly value the contributions of the non-coders on this list. Robbie, you've been a good advocate for the users who will no longer be able to benefit from new users of Adium. David, I think the difference between this and supporting 1.4.x is that 1.5 isn't close to ready, and delaying this change will actually make it harder - not easier - to get 1.5 release-ready. I do think that a feature freeze on 1.5 should be declared now-to-soon, but that's a different thread. However, I think that the code-writing developers have to take the day on this one; as Chris suggests, we ultimately depend on working on Adium being fun-and-rewarding to get volunteer participation. > - Finally, 1.4.x can continue to be updated for the foreseeable future to > ensure connectivity for the users we are leaving behind. Indeed. It's worth noting that users who have declined to upgrade to 10.6 or 10.7 have made their own decision about seeking new features; continuing to use a stable version of Adium should not be a hardship. The PPC drop doesn't change the requirements any further since 10.6 is Intel-only, too. > (One suggestion, re: release schedules. Its public address is: http://www.google.com/calendar/ical/4mjhuvtl5j4qeffojh0ber79e4%40group.calendar.google.com/public/basic.ics and I'll be happy to give any developer read/write access for use via CalDAV and whatnot - just email me offlist. Helpfully, it points out that we released Adium 1.5 on March 1 after extensive testing and a nearly 1 month beta period. Hooray! -Evan
