Please read my responses in full - I'm not being defensive, I'm elaborating on my original thoughts as I am under the impression, some points were not conveyed in the spirit I intended. George has done a FANTASTIC job and I like his proposals, however, I think before any feature is removed, it is given equal consideration :)

I saw the absence of a feature that defines the workflow I, and most of my colleagues, use and thought it reasonable to point this out. Exclusion of existing features are changes worthy of commentary as much as the new and exciting things George has put together :) > There's basically a lot of mini proposals inside of the pdf, and also in the > email. Agreed - and I like a lot of them but other people have already covered most of the points around those new features and adding "me too" seemed unnecessary. > You've got 2 big monitors, wheeee! On one Mac, the other is a 13" MBP, then there's my wife's 11" Macbook Air and the kids' 20" iMac… my point was that deprecating features that a lot of users rely on for a feature of limited use would, IMHO, be a backward step (see my next comment). > So what about the people on 11 inch macbook air's? ;) Indeed :) On these (relatively) small displays, full screen makes sense for some workflows, but for anything other than my Air, I don't see the point; but that's me. I'm obviously not a huge fan of the new "full screen" modes in Lion. I've used Unix/X11 and other display systems for almost 15 years and really think Apple missed the mark on this - Expose+Spaces was IMHO a better system especially for multi display setups. > I think the mockups that George sent should be a point of order to think > about how people use IM apps in general. Lion has proven itself to be a bigger evolutionary jump than the previous few iterations of OSX. Whether all the new Lion-esque features survive will be interesting to see. As for other apps, such as Adium, shifting in equally large (r)evolutionary steps is probably an opportune time. The trick will be not alienating users in the process. > I would like to make a suggestion to everyone replying. Evan made a very good > list of the things he liked, and explained it thoroughly. I'd suggest 5 features that shouldn't be removed also be on the list of considerations. ;) > George has put a lot of work into this, and it would be a travesty if it was > all dismissed out of hand over one or two single points. Hear, hear. No argument from me and kudos to George! Cheers, James
