Somewhere between torches+pitchforks and victory gardens+fallout shelters. Adium's a well-established app with thousands of more-or-less (depending on how flaky their service of choice is) happy users. You cannot change anything in the UI without upsetting at least hundreds of people. That doesn't mean it isn't worth changing.
