Just to clarify, Adium Next would NOT force a single window mode on users; undoubtedly, some people would find a single window mode detrimental to their workflows, and having contacts appear in the main window was made optional for this exact reason. The legacy contact list (the current, infinitely customizable one, albeit with a shiny new Me Button in place of its current toolbar contents) would remain available to users, and so they could enjoy all of the benefits of the new Main Window (with their contacts hidden, of course), as well as the benefits of a separate contact list. Forcing users to abandon one to have the other would be bad practice, and poor treatment of loyal users.
