As a member of the 'old guard' I have to say that I very much DISAGREE with the 
overuse of the duck (and I think Evan and Colin would probably agree with me as 
well although I'll not put words in their mouth).

What I interpreted to be at issue was whether or not it was ok to use the duck 
in place of a person. On this issue, I don't so much have a problem with it. As 
the others said, it's part of our persona. It wasn't that EVERY icon should 
contain a duck, it was just that we shouldn't remove all uses of it in the 
prefs just because it wasn't a person. That said, I don't have any objection to 
trying to enforce consistency, but I also don't think using the outline of the 
duck is going to be confusing.

The duck is indeed part of the personality of the app, but just like any bit of 
branding, it loses all meaning if it's overused. I'm very much against the idea 
of making all of these icons duck-inclusive (or even most of them).
