You are arguing a 'slippery slope' of increasingly intrusive telemetry,
but we should judge each thing on its own merits. Yes, a keylogger is a
bad idea--but it does not follow that keeping track of the hardware
configurations, or logging software failures is also super-bad. If the
benefits outweigh costs, the tradeoff is worth considering---this is
true of software just as well as of, say, vaccines.
The problem with 'slippery slope' arguments is that they themselves can
be abused to say that no change is possible because it could be taken
too far and lead to abuse.
