The debuginfo inside the static archives used to be stripped because it wasn't very useful. The change didn't just stop the stripping it also updates the debuginfo to be actually useful to include. Specifically it rewrites the debuginfo to include to correct source file paths as shipped in the corresponding debugsources package (which also means those might now include more source files).
