there's a better way, IMO: let's say we call them sabayon and sabayon-distro
sabayon can be done using git rm, and sabayon this way: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/359424/detach-subdirectory-into-separate-git-repository I'll try to do it (did some tests already) and put on GitHub some proof of concept implementation of this idea. My script is executing, don't know how much time it will take. :)
