I don't see any need to fork the repository, unless you really don't like SourceForge or CVS. You're welcome can do an experimental branch right here. Nobody's asked, though.

Or, if you can put it right into the mainline if someone actually steps up to put a full release together.

It would be nice if that included other non-Linux platforms such as AIX or Solaris, but I realize almost nobody is interested in that these days. (I actually think ignoring those platforms would be the thing that likely kills NEdit, as on Linux there are a zillion GTK/GNOME/KDE/Qt snazzy editors to pick from. Not so on others.)

The problem I see is not lack of interest in coding features, but a lack of interest in doing the release engineering.
