Git? I heard a talk about git from Linus, he seemed to have some
pretty wrong concepts about Subversion, so by extension, I don't trust
git. Mercurial is what I would try.

For NEdit however I'd keep to SourceForge and switch to Subversion.
It's a huge improvement over CVS. If we add some new policies on top
of that, branches might be fun.
