You are right what you say below... I missed the whole scenario of one tuner 
card only.
Hmm, guess I have been spoilt by my Sky Box and doing it on a Mac with 
EyeTV...dual tuners all the way and operates as I have been describing from a 
users point of view. (pretty bold hard choice to make as I said)

Ok, looks like we are back to 'greying out' buttons (term used to say a button 
is there but not selectable looking visually) when features aren't available so 
the user can't activate them. 

I'll check out Myth again... been about 2 years since I went through PVR stuff.
I also liked MediaPortals implementation of TV scheduling PVR.
