the pdf was fine in the end thanks- not sure what you mean by the top/bottom
layer? Marking the co-ords of the best/worst places?

I just dont see how people are going to understand what the graphic even
implies without a key? They could figure it out from context, in which case
why not have the key up-front? It could be much lower priority than I've
given it..

I'm going to experiment with a less naturalistic, more graphical look -
people I've shown it to just think its a terrain map - the scenic areas
correlate pretty well to altitude :)
