tool, and indeed intended as part of org.mmbase.bridge.util, so why do
you
say that i have to write a bridge tools package when that is excactly
what
i'm doing? I think org.mmbase.bridge.util could be compared to e.g.
java.util. bridge.util contains now 5 or 6 classes and could easily grow
to
tens like java.util, for all I care ('thousand or so' seems a bit much,
and
I don't really believe it).

still those classes should not use the core (or caching) they are not
supoosed to know that there's a cache anyway.

the current BridgeList implementation already is some king of lazy
, it may contain core Nodes.
