Perhaps the netgear is doing extra magic to make things work out of the
box, I'm not sure. I think this isn't so much a bug in the Fonera, as
well as something that the netgear does extra to make VOIP more easy
(but I'm not really into the technical details voip myself...).

Steven mentioned that properly configuring a "STUN server" on the
Gigaset is critical in making it work. I've not yet heard you say
anything about this in your Gigaset configuratoin. Did you configure a
STUN server and are you confident it is correct and working?

Furthermore, you say you have a few different voip providers. Did you
try configuring each of them separately, to check if there are perhaps
problems with specific providers and to rule out any conflicts due to
ports being used twice?
